LOS ANGELES, Calif. — To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the classic #1 Record album by Big Star, benefit concert producers the Wild Honey Foundation and original Big Star drummer Jody Stephens plus an all-star ensemble will present a live performance of the LP on Saturday, November 5, at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, according to a news alert from WHF.

Along with the highly influential #1 Record in its entirety and in order, the set will include favorites from the 1970s power pop legends’ Radio City (such as “September Gurls”) and Big Star Third albums, along with choice solo material by Big Star alum Chris Bell.

Stephens, the band’s last surviving original member (Bell died in 1978 and both Alex Chilton and Andy Hummel died in 2010), will lead the Big Star Ensemble featuring Jeff Crawford, Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Chris Stamey (The dB’s), Skylar Gudasz, Brett Harris, Django Haskins, Charles Cleaver, Pat Sansone (Wilco), and Audley Freed.

The guest vocalist lineup will feature Susanna Hoffs (Bangles), The Lemon Twigs, Luther Russell (Stephens’ partner in the duo Those Pretty Wrongs), Chris Price, Jon Auer (The Posies), and others TBA.

Wild Honey Orchestra members set to accompany the Big Star Ensemble include Kaitlin Wolfberg and Eric KM Clark (violins); Lyn Bertles (viola); Emily Elkin (cello); and brass players Sarah Kramer (trumpet); David Ralick (trombone/sax); and Nelson Bragg (percussion).

Showtime at the historic Alex Theatre, located at 216 N. Brand in Glendale, is set for 8 p.m.

Tickets are available here, but going fast; Wild Honey events at the 1,400-seat venue built in 1925 traditionally sell out quickly.
