Group Headlines July 9 with Songs from Korula’s ‘Solo Sessions’
By Stephen K. Peeples
Multi-genre singer, songwriter, guitarist and bandleader Nikhil Korula and the NK Band will headline the House of Blues Sunset Strip on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at special party celebrating the release of Korula’s new EP, “Solo Sessions.”
The group will spotlight new material from “Solo Sessions,” now climbing the charts on radio. The five-track EP’s lead-off single, “Fade Away,” is inside the Top 20 and moving up FMQB’s Hot A/C airplay chart.
Doors open at 8 and the show starts at 9 at the House of Blues, 8430 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood. General admission tickets are $10 per person.
The NK Band’s House of Blues show precedes Saturday night’s premiere of Korula’s riveting solo acoustic set on SCVTV’s “House Blend,” the music-and-interview TV show hosted by Stephen K. Peeples in Santa Clarita, Calif. Further “House Blend” details will be announced Wednesday.
Korula Creates a Musical Mosaic with ‘Solo Sessions’
“Solo Sessions,” released by Korula’s own Groove Infinity Records, is a musical mosaic showcasing his powerful vocals and the most intimate, personal songwriting he’s recorded and released so far.
“After touring so much with the band, I wanted to step out a little as a singer-songwriter,” Korula said of his sixth release, following the NK Band’s “Music of the New Day” in 2012.
Joining him on various “Solo Sessions” tracks are Dave Matthews Band mainstays Jeff Coffin (saxophone) and Butch Taylor (keyboards).
Korula’s “Solo Sessions” music is soulful and adventurous, drawing from multicultural roots, and translates easily from solo to the full band arrangements fans will see and hear Tuesday night at the House of Blues.
The lyrics and concepts Korula explores on “Solo Sessions” are more introspective than on much of his previous work with his band. He opens the EP with an exploration of life and love titled “Spark” and follows a narrative thread through the closing “Fade Away.”
“We’re all sparks with great potential and the goal in life is to see how brightly you can shine before you fade away,” Korula said.
